Blehhh! I have really been procrastinating when it comes to running! I don't like running and I don't like starting up even more ! Luckily I have Ryan to kick me up the bum where motivation is concerned!
I did an 800m run on 11 - 14 speed tonight, nothing great but was a start. Will keep noting down progress and eventually start posting more about it.
I need to start running for a number of reasons - fat loss, fitness, MENS HEALTH! I do not want to 'wing' another race ever again and I swore to myself I will train hard when it comes to events so that is what I plan to do, I just needed somewhere to start...
I planned to start last week, which resulted in one slow pathetic jog! So now I need a proper plan to stick to. After a few conversations with Ryan, he has suggested start with doing a couple of runs a week, one really fast short run and one long slow run, always mixing it up -e.g. 800m, 1500m, 1800m and increase the speed every time, writing down the time for the fast short run.
Did I mention I hate running?? Well that is what makes this good for me - it motivates me to run faster as I know the faster I run, the quicker I reach the distance, the sooner the run is over :) Hopefully after a few weeks of doing it, my speed will have increased, therefor my time will get better. I will also monitor my heart rate on these runs. I will try and do a fast run before my weights sessions (can never be bothered to do it after - even though I know it is better).
I plan to measure my heart rate on the speedy runs |
On days I do long runs, I plan to run my usual 3 mile route, just try to better the time every time I go. I only want to do one of these a week in the meantime because...you guest it - I hate running!
It is a fairly hilly route which is always beneficial, only problem I have with it is that it is a road run and I am prone to shin splints :( so will have to monitor that when it comes to it.
It is always hard to start running back up and I do hope I will start enjoying it eventually, I suppose the more I do the better I will feel about it. I know it is something I have to do and I better start sooner then later (mens health and possibly Tough mudder to train for). Also, the more weights I am doing, the more bulky I am starting to look so I do want to start shredding the fat and running will definitely assist with fat loss.
My usual excuse - 'I can't do it' |
On another note - My gym has now got a Max Rack :) I am so excited to start using it! It's my leg day tomorrow so will give it a go!
