Weekend shinanigans

My weekend was fantastic!

Friday I was given a certificate for Employee of the Month and when I got home, Ryan surprised me with a present - only 5 ten MTB shoes!

5 ten mtb shoes
I have been finding the trainers I use for mountain biking really uncomfortable lately, I seem to lose circulation and my poor toes go numb - not the best when trying to concentrate on awkward downhills etc! Ryan bought himself a pair of these a few months ago and has been raving about them, the grip is supposed to be great. They were in the pipeline for me but as they are pretty pricey (£85) I thought I had better wait till next pay day. I got home from work and found a big box wrapped up for me on the bed. Bless him - he isn't one for buying gifts but he out did himself on these. Ryan definitely gets a gold star in the boyfriend category! I am so happy with them! They do feel a little chunky atm but I think I just need to get used to them! The weather was crap this weekend so I haven't had a chance to try them yet but hopefully we will be doing Whites level at Afan next week and I can give them a test drive!

Because I was sooo elated with my new shoes, I wanted to treat Ryan to food and cinema, so we thought we would go to Nandos then watch Oblivion. Unfortunately Nandos was so busy and we would have missed the film if we waited for a table so we decided we would go over to Frankie and Bennies - we have had some terrible experiences with food there in the past but we were both hungry and limited for time so thought we would give it a go. BIG MISTAKE!

We ordered chicken wing starters to share, a strawberry milkshake, Ryan had spaghetti meatballs and ordered Salmon and salad. The milkshake came out in a coke glass and I am pretty sure it was Nesquick! The chicken wings were very unimpressive  burnt and very salty. My Salmon was white and tasteless, more like mushy water and the salad was drenched in dressing and oil! Ryans pasta was furry and meatballs had like 2% meat and were blatantly from frozen. Ryan asked the waitress and both the salmon and meatballs were from frozen. All in all another nasty meal from Frankie and Bennys! I won't be going back there, and I am not one to complain about food and normally eat everything on my plate, barely touched it! Instead we had popcorn, sweets and ice cream at the cinema :)

nom nom - sweet!

I started feeling very unwell in the cinema so I can't say I thoroughly enjoyed the film, Ryan did though!
We then went home and watched my favourite ever Sparticus I am very sad that next week will be the last ever episode! And hopefully Ryan is on a role with buying gifts for his girlfriend as I made it clear I wouldn't mind the box set ;) haha

Oh I do love these men!
To finish the weekend off I had a great gym session! 1500m run followed by a back workout - my deadlifts are at 45kg now - only up from here :) I am loving the Max rack - just not a fan of the busy gym! Got my plan sorted for the week though, going to focus on speeding up my runs and increasing my weight slightly - I need to work on making sure I am doing things correctly as Ryan says my head is too floppy when I do my push ups and my bicep curls were not flowing properly. I also need to condense my workouts down as I am spending too much time in the gym!

Beginning of fitness journey

Bit of insight into where my interest in fitness started ... As far back as I can remember I have always had insecurities about my weight, this probably stems from my darling brother! I was a chubby baby/child I guess, but he very kindly nicknamed me Oros - In South Africa, Oros is the name of the mascot for an orange squash. Although I was never overweight or fat in any way, it stuck with me that I was the chubby one - my sisters and brother are all skinny! I was a pretty average achiever. I always wanted to do more where athletics/sports team etc were concerned but was never great enough to stand out. I was the one that always went to practice but wasn't noticed, I preferred to mold into the back ground if I wasn't outstanding. I once did a race in primary school, the whole school was there to watch, I think I was coming like 3rd from the back and I didn't like it so pretended I hurt my foot so I didn't need to finish! Naughty naughty! I'm on the lef

Tough Mudder 2013

At the start of 2013 Ryan and I decided we would book all our events/holidays etc and get everything more organised financially and mentally than we had previously. We were planning to book a holiday to South Africa so we needed to be a lot more constructive and 'picky' on what we were going to get involved in. My definite s were 'Legends of Sherwood 10k' (my favourite event), 'Mens health survival of the fittest' (My big Goal) and ofcourse 'Nos Galan' (The big bang to start the new year).  After a few months, Ryan had started researching 'Tough Mudder' and after hearing his friend in Scotland, was going to be taking part, he wanted to do the challenge and eventually persuaded me to get involved too. Unfortunately we booked the event without realising it fell exactly 1 week before Mens Health-so we knew it was going to be an intense time! Tough Mudder  is supposed to be 'one of the toughest events on the planet' and is a 17k o

Trip of a Life Time 2014

January 2013 after my brother, Jonathan and girlfriend Lulani had come to visit us for Christmas - I really wanted to go back to South Africa to visit them, my dad and just experience the place I grew up again. Luckily it didn't take much to convince Ryan to come with me ! In my head I had planned this once in a life time trip - I wanted to go all out and do EVERYTHING. We booked the trip in March (as soon as we could) with Trailfinders. Ryan has a cousin living in Dubai and thought it was a good way to cut short the plane journey and make the most of our holiday to stop off there for a few days on the way to South Africa and on the way back. The plan was to leave the UK 8th January and arrive back on Friday 31st January. Long time hey?? You would think so but I could have easily doubled the time and not have had long enough there ! Our Journey begins...Dubai (8th-12th) The run up to our trip dragged like crazy - I just couldn't wait! I packed and un-packed a milli
